by a bolt of lightning on Monday evening, July 20, 1942, at about 6
o'clock, a t her home near Winfield, during the electrical storm which
passed over that vicinity. This was the second death by lightning in the
county this season.
Mrs. Yohn was assisting her husband in driving in some young ducks
as the storm broke. A bolt struck a tree near which Mrs. Yohn stood,
and it is believed she was in the path of the lightning as it leaped to a wire
clothes line on the other side of the victim. Mr. Yohn who was a few
feet away was stunned and knocked senseless. Their son Lindy ran to
their aid and discovered his mother was dead.
Mrs. Yohn, who was aged 43 years, was the daughter of the late John
L. and Adelia Freyman. Surviving besides her husband are the following
children, Mary, Pearl, Tresa, and Lindy, all at home; also a brother,
Milton Freyman. near Winfield.
Funeral rites were held Thursday,
meeting at 1 p. in. at the late residence, with further services at 2 p. m.
in Ebenezer Methodist church The Rev. James K. Richards officiated,
assisted by the Rev. J. Howard Link. Burial was in the cemetery
adjoining the church. C. M. Waltz, funeral director.
