Marion McCrory Gilliland, 89, of Islesboro, Maine and Jacksonville, Florida died at her beloved island of Islesboro, Maine where she maintained a beautiful garden which gave her great joy. She died peacefully surrounded by her three children. She was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 49 years, John Alvin Gilliland. She is survived by her three children, John (Leslie), Christina Etchison (Don), and Marion Moran (Dana). She is also survived by her grandson, Drew (Kendall). Marion is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Marion was born in Jacksonville on October 25, 1918, the daughter of the late William Malcolm McCrory and the late Hilda Russell McCrory. Marion was a member of the first graduating class of Bartram School for Girls and was its oldest living graduate at the time of her death. She also graduated from Harcum College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Marion was a member of the Florida Yacht Club, Tarratine Club of Dark Harbor, Timuquana Country Club and the Ponte Vedra Club. She was a member of the 1938 Debutante Coterie, a maid in Ye Mystic Revellers, the Junior League of Jacksonville, Colonial Dames of America and the Dianthus Garden Club. Marion was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church, Orange Park and Christ Church, Dark Harbor, Maine. Following a private burial at Oaklawn Cemetery, a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Grace Episcopal Church at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 1st. A reception will be held at the Florida Yacht Club immediately after the service.
