The Rev. Albert M. Burroughs, 56, for 29 years pastor of St. John's Lutheran church northwest of this city, died Saturday morning at the Methodist hospital in Omaha. Death came as a result of heart trouble which began three months ago.

Mr. Burroughs was born Sept. 27, 1887, in Frohna, Perry county, Missouri. After completing his elementary education in the Lutheran school of that vicinity, he entered Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Ill., and was graduated in June of 1909. Upon ordination into the office of the ministry, he accepted a call to Bozemann, Mont., and in 1910 he assumed charge of several congregations at Ogallala, Neb. He came to St. John's Lutheran congregation, Grand Island, in 1913. Ailing health forced him to resign from this pastorate in 1942. After a year of rest his health was restored to the extent that he could again enter the ministry. This was in August of 1943 when he accepted a call to the Lutheran church at Holstein, Neb., where he took up his work with new vigor. Last June 5th, he was suddenly stricken with a serious heart attack. When his condition did not improve he was taken to the Methodist hospital at Omaha.

Mr. Burroughs married Miss Marie Zchoche of Fort Wayne, Ind., Aug. 22, 1909, and two daughters and three sons were born of their marriage. They are Agnes, of Berkeley, Cal., Esther, of Kansas City, Mo., Albert of Omaha, Walter, of Berkeley, Cal., and T/Sgt. Herbert E. Burroughs, U.S.A. He is survived by his widow, the children, three brothers, and two sisters. Mrs. Burroughs taught in the Lutheran day school, northwest of Grand Island for 28 years. In addition he held several offices in the South Nebraska district of the Lutheran church. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m., at Holstein, Neb. Interment will be in Grand Island cemetery.
