"FIRST CECIL COUNTY LADY OFFICIAL DIES

FAIR HILL, Md.-Mrs. Josephine Mackie Corcoran of Little Elk Creek Road, a prominent Cecil County political and civic leader, died yesterday at Union Hospital, Elkton, after a short illness.

Her age was not disclosed.

Born in Warwick, she had lived most of her life in Cecil County. She was active in civic affairs as president of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Elkton and a director of the Cecil County Community Chest.

She was also politically active and was the first Cecil County woman to be elected as a public official. She was a member of the Democratic State Central Committee, past president of the National Order of Women Legislators and past president of the Women's Democratic Club of Cecil County. She was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates to fill a vagrancy in 1941 and was elected in 1944 to the post for a full term. She was also a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Elkton.

Mrs. Corcoran was married twice. Her first husband, Osborne S. Mackie, died many years ago. She is survived by her husband, John T. Corcoran; five sons of her first marriage, Osborne S. Mackie, Jr., of Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Richard D. Mackie, a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, F. Thomas Mackie and Joseph K. Mackie, all of Fair Hill, and David L. Mackie of near Elkton; five daughters, Mrs. Elinor Foltz of Elkton, Mrs. Wilhelmina M. Unruh of Middletown, Del, Mrs. Jean Almony of Baltimore, Mrs. Pauline M. Strahorn of Fair Hill, and Mrs. Catherine M. Milburn of Barkesdale; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Boulden of Elkton, and a brother, Richard D. Aiken of Earleville.

Services will be Monday afternoon at 2 at Rock Presbyterian Church, Fair Hill, with interment in Sharps Cemetery near Fair Hill. Friends may call at the Corcoran residence tomorrow afternoon."
