AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Daniel Lee Schmidt, 78, of Augusta, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Georgia Health Sciences Center. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10am at Georgia National Cemetery. Lee was born in Stone County Missouri to the late Daniel Lee Schmidt and Stella Dycus. He lived in various cities before moving to Augusta more the 30 years ago. He retired from the Army after 25 years of service as a Sargent First Class. While in the Army he was a combat medic. Lee was a member of The American Legion Post # 192. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Ann Widley. He is survived by his wife Beverly Katzman Schmidt, children, David (Melissa) Schmidt, Augusta, GA; Pendella (Frank) Silvey, Atlanta, GA; Dr. Lori Schwam, Augusta, GA; Dr. Stephen (Cheryl) Schwam, Raleigh, NC; Glen (Adele) Schwam, grandchildren, Nathanial Schmidt, Emory Silvey, Mollie Schwam, Gail Schwam, Danielle Schwam, and Diana Schwam. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Rd., Martinez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
