Sister Donna Kurtenbach, 86, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Sunday evening, October 22, 1989 at Holy Family Convent. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Presiding at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Robert B. Reppen, O.Praem. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Sister Donna was born December 24, 1902 at Lindsay, Nebraska. Daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Happ Kurtenbach. The former Margaret Catherine Kurtenbach entered the convent in 1921 and professed her vows in 1924. Sister earned a B.A. degree from St. Norbert, DePere, Wisconsin and her Master’s Degree in Education from St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. Sister was a Teacher at St. Francis School, Hollandtown, Wisconsin; Guardian Angels Boarding School, Oneida, Wisconsin; St. John, Antigo, Wisconsin; St. Peter’s, Ashton, Wisconsin; St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Minnesota; St. Therese, Appleton, Wisconsin; St. Pius X, Appleton, Wisconsin. Sister was a Teacher and Principal at St. Boniface, Manitowoc; St. Willibrord’s, Chicago, Illinois; St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio; and a librarian at Holy Innocents, Manitowoc. Since her retirement in 1982 Sister has been residing at Holy Family Convent.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Grundmayer of Manchester, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Josephine) Bechman of Ontario, Canada; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Kurtenbach of Platte Center, Nebraska and Mrs. Helen Kurtenbach of Telden, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, 4 pm to 8 pm Tuesday where a prayer service will be at 7 pm at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting with arrangements.
