Mary Ella Fleener was married to Samuel J. Adams, according to their children's birth information. By 1900, Mary Ella stated on the U.S. Census Record that she was widowed. However, I have not found a grave for Samuel or any death information. According to Iowa Marriage Records, Mary Ellen Fleener Adams did marry again on Jan 8, 1901 to John Murphy. However by April, 1901 she had died. Her parents, John Fleener and Sarah Downey ,were listed on this marriage certificate.
I did find Samuel J. Adams' grave memorial. He was previously married to LaVinna Babcock and had a child, Minnie B. Adams born in 1875. LaVinna died Mar 1, 1878 at the age of 20. By 1880 US Census, Samuel had remarried Mary Ellen Fleener, and his daughter, Minnie B. Adams, age 5, was living with them. He had 2 more children, this time with Mary Ellen, before he died in 1883 at the age of 32.
