Daniel E. Hendrickson Grand Ledge Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Daniel E. Hendrickson, 91, born September 8, 1921 in Bloomington, IN, passed away at home on October 12, 2012. Dan moved from Indiana to the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids with his two brothers and two sisters in 1934, after his father died as the result of a quarry accident. He was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School (1942) and entered the military service in 1942, serving in the Army 8th Air Force in the European Theater from 1943 and 1945, during WWII. Dan, a true patriot, was honorably discharged in 1945, having received one Service Stripe, four Overseas Service Bars, Eastern European Theater ribbon with Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, and WWII Victor Medal. Dan served with the Eaton County Sheriff's Dept., served with the Grand Ledge Police Force and was Chief of Police. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader and Scoutmaster; a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and former Sunday school teacher; retired from Grand Ledge Public Schools; was an Eaton County Hospice Volunteer and American Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer; life member of the Grand Ledge Cole-Briggs American Legion Post 48 and V.F.W. Post 3293, and also chairman of the Buddy Poppy Sale for several years. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Janet, daughters Daniela (Steve) Wingate of Columbus, OH and Barbara (Dan David) Hendrickson of Grand Ledge, sons Thomas (Janice) Barnes and Gerald Irish both of Grand Ledge; four grandchildren: Carrie, Jessica, Donovan and Will; 7 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Betty Hendrickson and Margery (Michael) Judd; brother-in-law Graydon (Shirley) Briggs and; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 15, 2012 - 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 210 W. Saginaw Hwy., Grand Ledge, MI, with Pastor Nicolette Siragusa officiating. Military Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. Funeral luncheon will follow at the Grand Ledge Cole-Briggs American Legion. The family will receive friends and family at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions made to the V.F.W.
