daughter of Christopher Vandergrift & Temperance "Tempe" Skelton Vandergrif.

Various spellings; Vandergrift, Vandergriff, Van Der Griff

1st marriage to William Ford (3 children William Whitaker, Robert C & Tempe Elizabeth)
2nd marriage to attorney James Fitzgerald (2 children Mary Alice & James), he was also widowed (Jane Deringer) and had 3 preivious children, Churchill, Eliza & Nancy

The 1880 census (with multiple transcription errors) shows James, Francis A, Churchill, Mary & Jamie upon review.

Likely born in or near Henry, Ky. Also lived in Carroll & Owen County, Kentucky. Later moved to Carter County, KY to be near her daughter Mary Alice (Fitzgerald) Roberts whom she lived with.

Was found on the 1900 Census as a widow with her daughter & family, age 71. She is not found on any other census with any of the children in 1910. So it is believed she passed sometime in between 1900-1910. Kentucky did not require death reports/certificates until 1911.

Per her granddaughter, Ruby, she was buried with no stone in Olive Hill, at the "old" section known as the JOU AM & Eagle, near her daughter, Alice (Fitzgerald) Roberts. There use to be a small stone/marker years ago, but it had vanished.
