NICHOLAS ELSON DIES
Nicholas Elson, 735 Garfield St., died this morning in Newman Memorial County Hospital. He was a truck driver for Emporia firms for 30 years before his retirement in 1958.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, and the Rev. Robert J. Hulse, pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Nicholas Elson was born July 15h, 1899, in Lineville, Iowa, the son of Cornelius A. and Esther Adams Elson. He married Hallie Mae Browning, May 23rd, 1909, in Lineville, and moved from Colorado to Kansas in 1929. He lived on a farm north of Emporia until 1937 when he moved to town.
Besides farming, he drove a truck for Bailey Transfer for 10 years, and Thomas Transfer and storage for 20 years. He was a member of the modern Woodmen of America.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Victor C. Elson, 414 South Mechanic Street; one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Feltner, 723 Garfield St.; two brothers Edward Elson, Lineville, and Fred E. Elson, Council Bluffs, Iowa, five sisters, Mrs. Oscar McClain, Lineville, Mrs. Fred Glashin, St. Joseph, Mo., mrs. Pearl Casey, Corydon, Iowa, Mrs. Emmett Casey, Lineville, and Mrs. Pete Crawoford, Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Norma Allen, Denton, Linda Blow, Wamego, and Karen Phillips, 526 South Congress Street; and five great-grandchildren.
