Laura was the daughter of Richard F. Maynard (1815-1897) and Elizabeth Maria (Horton) Maynard (1816-1892).
In the 1880 U.S. Census, Dr. Howard and Laura were living in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Dr. Howard died of Apoplexy. He fell from a tug boat, Kate Jones, at the Commercial Wharf in Fells Point, Baltimore City, Maryland. He was on his way from "Grey Rock" [Richard Maynard's home near Pikesville] to the Marine Hospital, where he was the resident physician.

Dr. E. Lloyd Howard, quarantine physician and in charge of the quarantine hospital at Baltimore for the past six years, was accidentally drowned in the Harbor of Commercial wharf Monday forenoon. Dr. Howard was one of the best known and most popular physicians of the state, a member of the state board of health, and for a long time demonstrator of anatomy in the University of Maryland. He was a member of the medical commission sent to New Orleans in 1878.
