Bruce August Achilles, son of August and Katy Knackstedt Achilles, was born Feb. 20, 1915, at Groveland, Ks. He was one of six children born to this union. One brother, Leland, preceded him in death. He graduated from the Groveland Grade School and the Cheyenne Wells Colorado High School.

Bruce was employed by the Ks State Highway Dept. at the time of his marriage to Kathryn Robinson, Sept. 21, 1941, at McPherson, Ks. He and his wife established their first home at McPherson and had resided there since that time. In 1942, he began working for the Rodney Milling Company and spent 26 years in their employment. During that time he served, for several years, as the secretary for the local chapter of the American Federation of Grain Millers. He also worked for Graves Truck Line for three years before assuming the position of stockroom supervisor for Kit Manufacturing Company until his retirement in 1980.

Bruce was active in the Quivira Council of Boy Scouts of America and was also a sports enthusiast and played baseball in his younger years. He spent many hours in his woodworking shop and his favorite hobby was photography. He was a kind and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His interest and concern for his family will be missed by those so dear to him. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, having served as an elder and as superintendent of the fourth and fifth grade Sunday School classes for many years. He was also a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 376 and had served the organization in many capacities over the years.

Following a lengthy illness, he entered into peaceful rest at the Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson, Ks. on Sat. May 28, 1983 at the age of sixty-eight years.
