On October 6, 2012, Frances Gottbehuet, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and community elder, ascended peacefully to heaven after a brief illness, knowing that she would reunite with her husband of 59 years, Lewis, son, Steve Rogers, and parents, siblings and friends who have gone before. She was surrounded by the love of her family during her final moments.

Fritz, as she was best known, was born to Anna Johnson and Amos Watson on February 4, 1923, joining Olive, Opal, Harold, George, Evelyn and Charles. She was a "daddy's girl": and was often invited for rides along the Highline Ditch with Amos.

She was the keeper of the family's greatest treasure: generations of stories depicting the lives of family and friends in the Arkansas Valley. She attended many a dance at the Dane Hall and her tales of the early days in and around Fowler were entertaining to the family and a resource to the Fowler Historical Society, as she had keen recollections of times, places and people. She is the last of her generation of Watson kin and she is remembered by all for her feisty nature, quick wit, salty tongue and contagious laughter.

She was an enthusiastic traveler, visiting Europe, New York, Las Vegas, Oregon and points in between. In Otero County, she was affliated with 4H, the Number 6 Club, Red Hat Society, Fowler Historical Society, Grizzlies Class of '41 and Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a loyal fan of the Fowler Grizzlies, the Broncos and the Rockies, as well as enjoying playing cards and dominoes. She loved watching classic Westerns and listening to Dean Martin and many of us have been gifted with beautiful embroidered or crocheted items she created.

Fritz is survived by her daughter, Mayrene Pennington (Dean), and sons Frank, George and Todd, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her loss leaves a void in our hearts and lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fowler, followed by a reception at the church before a graveside commitment service at Fowler Cemetary. Memorial contributions to the Fowler Cemetary in Fritz' honor may be made in her name at Fowler State Bank.
