Jerry was born on October 9, 1931 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a retired accountant.
Jerry was an avid golf enthusiast, both as a player and a fan, and was a member of the United States Golf Association. He was also a bowler and competed individually on numerous teams in his hometowns of Arlington, Texas, Navarre, Florida and here in Gainesville. Jerry loved football and baseball and followed the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Sox. The thing he looked forward to the most was attendance at the Gainesville group's Korean War Veterans of Georgia meetings at Central Baptist Church.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Aileen Nichols Firestone of Gainesville and her family, his sister, Elaine Grollman of Deerfield Beach, Florida and her family and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11:00 am in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 10:00 am – 10:45 am, prior to the service at the funeral home. Officiating will be Central Baptist Church's Pastor Earl Pirkle and serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Korean War Veterans of Georgia's Gainesville group members.
