Born along with twin brother Alfred James in Carroll, Manitoba to George Languer Eamer and Catherine Olive Casemore. Siblings were: George "Alvin"; Percy Cecil; Carroll Lancelot "Carl"; Charles Wesley "Charlie"; Gordon Peter; Laura Edith (Logan); Alfred James; Hattie Eileen (Moffatt); Ross Taylor; and Milvert Victor "Bert".

He was educated in Brandon and taught school in the district until moving to Winnipeg and taking employment as an accountant. When he retired, he was Asst General Manager of Gordon Hotels Ltd.

Al married Edith Hampton in Wawanesa Aug 22, 1933 and they had two children - Bill (Helen) and Catherine (John Cooke).

His interests included bowling, curling, golf and a number of service organizations.

As a Past Grand Exulted Ruler and his wife a Past Supreme Honoured Royal Lady, they were the only couple to have served in the most senior offices of the Elks and their affiliate organization the Order of the Royal Purple.
