Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Chapel in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Edward M. Ainsworth Sr., 85, made his final flight Feb. 26, 2006, in the VA Hospital in Big Spring.
Mr. Ainsworth had recently moved to Big Spring from Austin.
He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Gonzales. Ed served as a pilot during World War II in the U.S. Air Force. He was awarded many honors including the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. While flying a mission over Germany, his plane was shot down and he became a prisoner of war for 13 months.
Ed retired from the U.S. government as an IRS supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, June Annell.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ed Jr. and Debbie of Austin; two daughters, Cindy Lacy and Ellen Barnett, both of Tyler; four granddaughters, Missy Lacy of Bellmead, Wash., Kelly Penney, Sarah Barnett, and Erin Argote, all of Tyler; three great-grandsons, Anthony and Noah Argote and Isaac Penney, all of Tyler; and his four-legged pal, Paco.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to support his Comrades in Arms to the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas Veterans Home, 1809 N. Hwy 87, Big Spring, TX 79720 or to Sharon Baptist Church, 12216 FM 3226, Arp, TX 72750.
