Of Felton, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital in Dover. He was 88.

Richard was born Sept. 7, 1924 in Bridgeville, the son of the late Charles C. and Mamie Still Adams.

He was a graduate of Felton High School in 1942 and just celebrated his 70th Class Reunion in April.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, receiving many awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Heart Medals and the P.O.W. Medal.

He was a member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, Independent Order of Odd Fellows #30 in Felton, Grand Encampment #6, Patriarchs Militant Canton #4, Sarah Rebekah Lodge # 16, First Commander of the Adams-Simpler-Ware V.F.W Post in Felton and Past President of the Felton Alumni.

Richard was involved in many types of work during his life, which includes working at the Felton Hardware, Insurance Salesman for Met Life, 12 years at Playtex, Assistant manager at Agway, Playtex-ILC and then retired later on from American Original in Seaford.

His favorite pastime was playing golf with his friend Tom. He was an avid sports fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Loran C. Adams, who was killed in WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose; 3 children, Richard Adams Jr., Cathy Draper and her husband Ron, and Keith Adams and his partner, Ned Travis; granddaughters, Amy Draper and Beth Draper; great-grandson, Tevin Thomas; cousins, Ruth Ann Messick and Etta Mae Detweiler and sisters-in-law, Hazel B. Suchko, Josephine Rowlinson and Patricia Bravata.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 15, at 12 noon in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main St., Felton, where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: American Lung Association , 1301 Penn Ave NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
