Obituary for Joe H. Brawner
Joe. H. Brawner, age 89 and a resident of Brookside Drive in Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Franklin Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by the United States Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be Monday, April 16, 2012 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Joe was born on Feb. 17, 1923 in Lawrence County to Isla Greer and William Henry Brawner. He served our country in the U. S. 8th Army Air Force during World War II. Upon returning from service, he worked for a number of years at International Minerals and Chemicals and later worked and retired from TVA. He was married on April 4, 1947 to Clarice Curtis. She passed away on August 6, 1978. He married Shirley Gilmore in 1980. She passed away on Sept. 4, 1992. He was a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ. He loved to spend time gardening.

Survivors include his daughter: Linda B. Clark of Mt. Pleasant; brother: Claude {Faye} Brawner of Mt. Pleasant; special nephews: Mickey and Jack Warren of Mt. Pleasant; special nieces: Brooke Warren, Teresa Nichols, both of Mt. Pleasant; special friend: Wanda Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a son Robert Thomas "Tommy" Brawner; brothers: Orin and Raymond Brawner and sisters: Eva Oxford, Bell Hanback, Inez Adams, Amy Cummins and Hazel Cummins.

Pallbearers will be Richard Cothran, Austin Adams, Bobby Cummins, Kent Cummins, Hendley Edwards, Larry Thompson, Tony Brawner and Chris Adams. Honorary pallbearers include: Dr. J. Cummins Couch, Billy Roy Thompson, James F. Attkisson, Jack Nichols, Keith Cummins, Kenny Cummins, Eldon Cummins, Charles Crotzer, Tom Jones, Richard Hendrix, James Red Lindsey, Ralph Gilmore, John Dugger, Buford Eastep, staff of NHC Hillview and the coffee drinkers at Small Town Diner.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. James Cummins Couch and the staff at NHC Hillview.
