June Ventura, 87, of Shawnee quietly and peacefully passed from this earth into the arms of her savior, Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Norman, Oklahoma.

June was born June 21, 1925 to Lester and Una Brown in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

She was raised in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School.

Following graduation she proudly served her country by joining the U.S. Navy where she met her future husband, Tony Ventura while he was serving in the U.S. Navy and they were married on December 27, 1945 in Clarksburg, West Virginia and have shared over 66 wonderful years together.

She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her home and family. June loved to sew, knit, crochet and play bingo. June was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for almost 50 years. June loved the Lord and was very active in the church and always willing lend a helping hand to do whatever was needed. She taught Sunday School and loved to sing and enjoyed singing in the church choir. June made sure her two daughters were brought up in the church. She loved to travel with her husband and they attended many OU football games. June loved the outdoors and spent a great deal of time outside in the spring, summer and fall working around the house with her husband, Tony. June was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and was active in the PTA and held the office of President.

June lived by the Golden Rule and always treated everyone as she wanted to be treated. She rallied for the poor and needy and helped anyone she thought was in need. She always told us you couldn't give too much time, help or money for other people. She will be dearly missed by her family and all that new her.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Una Brown; son, Anthony Ventura, Jr.; sister, Amy Miller; and brother, Bill Speak.

Those left to cherish her memory are husband, Tony Ventura, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Sherril Henderson, of Shawnee and Toni and Jim Bryce, of Shawnee; three sisters, Betty Jean Russell, of Shawnee, Mary Ann Lanier, of Shawnee and Kathryn and Ed Gansz and their daughter, Alsiha, of Texas; 4 grandchildren, James and Vonda Bryce, of Shawnee, Cheryl and Pat King, of Purcell, OK, Phillip Bryce and Toni Scharbrough, of Shawnee and Brooke and Jeremy Howard, of Raytown, MO; 7 great-grandchildren, Amanda and Matt Powers, Ashly and Jacob McLain and Christopher King, all of Purcell, OK, Meagan Stewart, Kylie Bryce and Kohl Bryce, all of Shawnee and Morgan Stewart, of Raytown, MO; and numerous extended family and friends.
