Jessie, daughter of Aaron and Florence (Clarkson) Tillotson, was born June 9, 1918 in Ottumwa, Iowa where she attended school and grew to womanhood. In 1934 she moved with her family to Barnesville.
Jessie married Elmer Steinkopf on June 22, 1939 in Sisseton, South Dakota. The couple made their home and farmed in Humboldt Township near Barnesville where they raised their family. Mr. Steinkopf died in 1969. In 1970 Jessie moved into Barnesville and in the early 70s worked for the Nursing Home in Barnesville. She later worked for the Barnesville Senior Citizen Center.
She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Barnesville and the church Ladies Aid. For many years she enjoyed her homemaker group, was involved with F.F.A. when her children were active, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 153 of Barnesville. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, sewing and made many afghans. Jessie also enjoyed cooking and baking.
She is survived by seven children, 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Willis.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Jerome; her grandson Toby Poppel, her sister, Inez; three daughters-in-law, Ladonna Steinkopf, Young Steinkopf and Annette Steinkopf.
