James Ira "J.I." Sutton, 94, Cairo, died at 10 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Methodist Hospital.

He worked for Spencer Chemical Company for 29 years. He was a member of Finley Baptist Church and the Local No. 561 Laborers International Union.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Louise Sutton, who died in 1998; one daughter, Sharon Faye Springer, who died in 1996; and one son, Timothy Lee Sutton, who died in 1955.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Whitmore of Corydon and Donna Sawyer of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, Mike Sutton of Henderson and Randy Sutton and Ricki Sutton, both of Cairo; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Burke will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and after noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
