Robert E. "Bob" Shaffer, 80, lately of Fort Wayne, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at University Park Health and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of Fort Wayne for 40 years, from 1949 to 1989, St. Cloud, FL for 12 years, from 1989 to 2001 and Waterloo, IN for 7 years from 2001 to 2008. He retired after 46 years in the trucking business, during which time he worked for Lime City Trucking Company, Consolidated Truck Lines and Specialty Cartage.
Born March 13, 1928 in Garrett, he was the son of the late Ralph Waldo and Maude Mae (Williams) Shaffer. He married Wanda Mae Tierney on May 28, 1949 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fort Wayne; she died on January 9, 1988. He then married Phyllis J. Shannon on June 3 1989 in Fort Wayne; she died on March 11, 2008.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Guadalupe to secure the Pacific during WW II. He spent his leisure time surfing the Internet, e-mailing family and friends, and building radios and computers. He also enjoyed carpentry and working on various engines-automobile, tractor, boat and small engines.
He is also preceded in death by his son, Robert M. Shaffer; brothers, Lewis, Harry, Richard and Gene; sisters, Dorothy, Ruth and Phyllis. He is survived by his children, Mrs. Dena Shaffer of Ossian, Ralph (Shelley)Shaffer of Godley, TX, Deborah L. Andrews, Lucinda M. (Jeffrey) Fenker, Richard (Traci)Shaffer, Rebecca (Dennis) Mahuren, and Lorraine K. Barton all of Fort Wayne.
