Alma O. Carey was born Oct. 5, 1901 on the family farm in Albert Township of Benson County to Alfred & Magda Torgunrud Westrum. After her education at the township school, she worked in Minneapolis, Minn. & Pasadene, Calif. for several years. She married Richard Carey in July of 1937 in Minneapolis. They settled in Bremerton, Wash. & then moved to Bellingham, Wash., where they, along with his parents, built & operated a dry cleaning business. Richard Carey died in 1950. In 1953 she moved to Maddock & cared for her parents. She moved to Devils Lake in 1979 & in March of 1992 became a resident of the Lake Region Lutheran Home.
She was a lifelong member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and its ladies aid.
Survivors include a sister, Gladys Halvorson of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; 3 brothers, Wesley Westrum of Cheney, Wash., Laurence Westrum of Portland & Freeman Westrum of Maddock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 4 sisters, Amanda Duart, Mabel Skadeland, Olga Pierson & Norma Westrum; & 3 brothers, Clarence, Melford & Arnold Westrum.
