Abbie J. Cassady
Abbie Jene Cassady, 73, of 4297 Oak Level Road, Bassett, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at his residence. A native of Patrick County, he was born April 7, 1927. Cassady, a World War II Army veteran, was based in Japan as a staff sergeant with the 603 Tank Company, which was attached to the First Calvary Division during the war. He would later work at Stanley Furniture Co. for 28 years and retired as a quality control inspector. He was a member of the New Covenant Fellowship and served in several capacities within the church. Preceding him in death were his parents, John Cassady and Dovie Dalton Cassady; six brothers, Kenneth, Brockley, Richard, Henry, Benny and Bronzy Cassady; and two sisters, Pearlie Cassady and Nora Haley. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Brim Cassady of the home; one daughter, Deborah Cassady Richardson of Boones Mill; one sister, Lennis Inman of Route 5, Stuart; one brother, Leonard Cassady of Route 1, Lawsonville, N.C.; two grandsons; and a granddaughter. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Bassett. The Revs. Dwight Grissom and Allen Dawson will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Services from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of New Covenant Fellowship, c/o Mollie Dalton, 6250 Virginia Ave., Bassett, Va. 24055.
