Mr. Jacob Edward "Ed" Aspinwall, 49 of Blackshear, passed away Saturday evening, October 6, 2012, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Born in Blackshear, GA on November 29, 1962, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. Mr. Aspinwall was a 1980 graduate of Blackshear High School and was a conductor with CSX Transportation where he had been the union president for the last seven years. He had also served as the president of Local 998 and was a member of the United Transportation Union (UTU) since 2006.

Mr. Aspinwall was a US Navy veteran and was the Senior Vice Commander of The American Legion Post 181, a position he had held since 2008; was a founder of the Pierce County American Legion Riders post 181, was the District Commander of the American Legion Riders 8th District and was a member of the American Legion Riders Honors Society.

Survivors include his daughter, Brittany Aspinwall of Blackshear; his son, Jake Aspinwall of Blackshear; his mother and step-father, Sue & Ervin Collins of Blackshear; his father and step-mother, Frank & Jan Aspinwall of Blackshear; his sister and brother-in-law, Susie & Ronnie Dixon of Blackshear; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frankie & Dr. Marilyn Aspinwall of Kingsland and Dr. Neil & Teresa Aspinwall of Lake Charles, LA, and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

Visitation:
Visitation for Mr. Aspinwall will be held Tuesday evening from 6 until 9:00 at the funeral home.

Service:
Funeral services for Mr. Aspinwall will be held at 11:00 Wednesday morning, October 10, 2012, at the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

The family requests that members of the American Legion Riders post 181 serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the funeral home by 10:30 Wednesday morning.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery.

Saturday Motorcycle Wreck
Claims Life Of Aspinwall

JESUP — A motorcycle crash near here Saturday claimed the life of a Blackshear man, according to a report from the Georgia State Patrol, Brunswick post.

Jacob Edward "Ed" Aspinwall, 49, died as a result of the crash that occurred sometime Saturday evening, the GSP said. The accident happened on U.S. Highway 84 near its intersection with Empire Road, nearly two miles west of the city limits of Jesup. He was alone at the time of the crash, the GSP said, adding that no details from an investigation are ready for release.

An obituary published in today's issue of the Waycross Journal-Herald notes that Aspinwall was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was active in the American Legion, as well as the Pierce County American Legion Riders of Post 181, a riding group which he founded.

Aspinwall was born in Blackshear Nov. 29, 1962, and lived in Pierce County all of his life.
