Kirsten Andersen helped her neighbor who lived across the road and a little to the east in the next farm, Johanna Anderson, who emigrated from Sweden. Shortly after Johanna and her husband Johannes Anderson emigrated from Sweden and settled on the nearby land, Johannes was in a tree felling accident and died (1872). His wife Johanna was left to prove up the homestead on her own. Kirsten Andersen raised sheep, and she provided wool for Johanna Anderson to card, and then gave Johanna a share of the carded wool to keep for her own family's use - to make mittens for Johanna's 2 young children in the winter, and other needs for their family.

(This story has been passed down in my family, I am descended from Johanna and Johannes Anderson from Sweden.)
