Allen Jenkins Dies Today
Dr. Allen Jenkins, 72, died at 12:32 o'clock this morning at his home, 819 East Tenth street, following a six months illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the residence by the Rev. A.L. Kershaw, rector of Christ Episcopal church. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery with military services at the grave.
Dr. Jenkins was born in Warren county October 11, 1872, a son of J.L. and Annie Allen Jenkins. He was married to Miss Florence Adams of this city, 45 years ago at Nashville.
A graduate of Ogden college, Dr. Jenkins served in the Spanish American war as a first lieutenant and held the rank of captain in World War 1, serving as an adjutant. He also participated in the Mexican border fighting. He was a member of the American Legion, the 40 & 8 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Dr. Jenkins practiced as a veterinarian here from 1920 until last January when he retired because of ill health.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Allen Lodwick Jenkins, one brother, James A. Jenkins, and one sister, Mrs. Hershel Brite, all of this city. A brother Charles Jenkins, prominent tobaccanist, died April 30.
