Simon Dotson, son of William Dotson and Mary (Franks) Dotson, married Phoebe Hollingsworth, daughter of Thomas B. Hollingsworth and Susanah (Mayze/Mayes?) Hollingsworth, on 29 March 1794 in Patrick County, Virginia.

They had the following children: Susannah "Sookie/Sukey" (md. Schuyler Hamilton); Arta "Artie" (md. Jacob Butcher); Elizabeth (md. Robert Beverly, Sr.); William H. (md. 1st, Mary Hutchinson; md. 2nd, Celia (Plummer) Horton); Thomas (md. Abigail Hillman); Lydia (md. 1st, James Roberts; md. 2nd, Eli/Ely Hall); Benjamin (md. Nancy Chase); Daniel (md. Nancy E. Robinson); Ann "Annie" (md. Hardin/Harden Dale); James O. (md. Elizabeth Bush); Mary (md. Charles Huff); and Andrew Jackson (md. Lucinda Jane Matney).

Excerpts from Historical Sketches of Southwest Virginia, Publication 5, March 1970, The Name and Family of Dotson, By Emory L. Hamilton, notes in editorial brackets added by Angela Stallard:
Simon Dotson was born in 1761, and died at his home on Guest River (someplace between Ramsey and Tacoma, Wise County, Virginia) on May 30, 1849, at the age of 88 years .

The burial place of Simon Dotson and his wife, Phoebe, is not definitely known. The older section of the Laurel Grove Cemetery at Ramsey, near Norton, [Wise County], Virginia, was the original burying ground of the Hamilton family [Simon's & Phoebe's daughter, Susannah md. Schuyler Hamilton]; descendants of Simon Dotson, and his daughter Mary Dotson Huff, along with her husband were buried there in 1862; so in all probability Simon and his wife also sleep in this cemetery.

I, (Angela Stallard), have searched online sites, searched published sources, and questioned experienced genealogists in the SWVA region about the burial site for Simon Dotson and Phoebe Hollingsworth. To date, I have not found a definitive answer. Most sources lean toward the older section of the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, Wise County, Virginia. However, I do not feel comfortable adding him to that cemetery on F-A-G, until I have proof.

It is my hope that, by linking submitted memorials for his children to his memorial page, that I may come in contact with a submitter (family member) that has knowledge and proof of where he was interred.

The name of William Dodson's wife/wives are currently unknown. Mary Franks should be removed as William's wife. Mary Franks was supposedly married to a William B. Dodson who lived in Greenwood, Doddridge county, West Virginia. Mary Franks was never married to William Dodson, who was born in Virginia and died in White county, Tennessee, and who was the father of Simon Dodson. See pages 1176 and 1177 of The Dodson (Dotson) Family of North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia: A History and Genealogy of Their Descendants Volume Two by Mrs. Sherman Williams, Compiler and Editor and Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas, Jr., Publisher, Southern Historical Press, Inc., Easley, South Carolina, copyright 1988, for the information on Mary Franks and ancestry of husband William B. Franks.
