H. J. Behrens, Injured In Crash, Dies
Continue Inquest At Melrose Park; Other Driver Arrested
Injuries received at noon yesterday when the truck in which he and his son were riding was struck and overturned in a collision with an automobile in Maywood proved fatal several hours later in Westlake hospital in Melrose Park, to Henry J. Behrens, 49 years old, rural route 1, St. Charles.
An inquest was opened this morning at the McCoy funeral home in Melrose Park but was continued until Sept. 7 in the Cook county morgue. Frank Scatena, 2917 N. Damon ave. Chicago, driver of the car which collided with Behrens' truck, was arrested on a charge of reckless driving.

Son Injured.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Twenty-Fifth avenue and Harrison street. Behrens, accompanied by his 8 year old son, Laverne, was driving north on; Twenty- Fifth avenue, returning to Elgin with a load of Skelgas. Police said that he had the right of way over traffic traveling east and west on Harrison street.
Scatena was driving east. He was accompanied by L. Marcucci, 1217 N. Grove aye, Oak Park, Gudio Dastlanf, William Scalen, and Mario Talangarettl, all of Chicago. they were returning from a funeral.
Police claim that Scatena either failed to stop for the stop sign or did not wait for traffic to clear. His automobile hit the truck broadside and tipped it over on it's side. Behrens received a skull fracture and other injuries.
Laverne Behrens was shaken up and bruised. He was brought to Sherman hospital for an X-ray examination but physicians found no fractures. Marcucci was the only occupant of Scatena's car seriously hurt.

Once Lived Near Elgin
Atty. Milton Johnson of the law firm of Collen and Kessler of Chicago represented Behrens family at the inquest this morning.
Mr. Behrens was born in North Platte, Neb., April 8, 1890, and at the age of 10, moved to St. James, Minn. Where he resided until 1926. He moved to this vicinity at that time and had resided near Elgin for the last 13 years.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church at South Branch, Minn.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Hazel Behrens; one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Leona) Flatt of Elgin, and son, Laverne; his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Carl Behrens of South Branch, Minn: four sisters, Mrs. Carl Themer of Elgin, Mrs. Louis Knake of Danville, I'll,; Mrs. Harvey Miller of Madelia, Minn., and Mrs. George Sypuit of Lake Village, Ind., and 11 brothers, William of Hampshire, Carl of St. James, Minn., August of Pearl, I'll., Martin of Lake Village, Ind., Herman, Ernest, Reinhold, and Leonard, all of Elgin, Harvey of Watseka, I'll., John and Walter of South Branch, Minn.
Funeral Thursday.
Two other brothers, Fred and Otto, also were killed in accidents.
Funeral services will be held at 3 Thursday afternoon at the Norris funeral chapel in Elgin. The Rev. Elmer Grotelueschen will officiate and burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel.

No head stone -Henry is buried in a large plot with his wife and 16 other people - unsure if they are relatives - neither Henry or his wife Hazel have headstones.
