Harvey was the son of Samuel J. Huntington of Indiana and Agnes (McGown) Huntington of Pennsylvania. His parents were pioneers who came west on a prairie schooner. Harvey was born in Castle Rock, WA. The family moved to Portland, OR when he was eight years old and he spent the rest of his life there.
Harvey married Estella Robbins of Eddyville, OR in 1898. They had four children, Agnes, Lola, Herbert and Clyde.
Harvey died at home from a heart attack.
