Marie Adele Widdifield Jones Blythe, 88, passed away Dec. 15, 2005, at Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque, NM following a long illness, recently identified as cancer.

Marie was born on a farm north of Oakley, on August 1, 1917, the youngest of seven children of Walter and Ida Widdifield. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters; first husband Art Jones; and second husband John Blythe.

Following graduation from Oakley High School in 1935, Marie attended Eastern New Mexico Univeristy, where she had major roles in several musical productions. She was accepted to Julliard School of Music but lacked the financial means to attend, as her college savings had been lost in the banking crisis of the depression.

In the summer of 1936, Marie married Art Jones in the Methodist Church in Albuquerque, NM. The couple enjoyed a lively social life as members of the 20-30 Club in Albuquerque, NM. To this union one son, Bob Jones, was born. He survives in Bosque Farms, with his wife Irene.

Marie worked at KICA radio station in Clovis, NM before moving to Albuquerque, where her working career included selling bonds for the War Department during WWII and secretarial/book-keeping jobs with several employers, including Sandia Labs, where she worked for over 16 years. After her retirement Marie established "The Gift Box" in Peralta.

Marie was married a second time in 1946 to John A. Blythe. To this union was a son, Wayne Leo Blythe, was born. He died in 2000.

Marie is also survived by her loving nephews and nieces: Richard, Bob, Gene Bertrand; Janice Bertrand Owen; Willa Lee Widdifield Cotton; Myrna Dee Widdifield Floyd.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church. She was buried in a private cemetery in the foothills east of their residence in Peralta, NM.
