Dave died October 2, 2012 at the age of 88.

He was born in Tremonton Utah, April 11, 1924 to Doris Merrell and Ira Fridal.

The third of five children, Dave lost his father when he was only four leaving his mother to rear him and his four rambunctious siblings. As a young man Dave learned to farm with his uncles and cousins doing his part to help his mother who by then had lost his older brother to an accidental gunshot wound and was caring for his younger brother who suffered from the effects of polio.

He met his wife Barbara Christensen just prior to joining the Navy and they were married on March 25, 1945 while he was home on leave. They lived in Tremonton in the family home with their three girls, Paula, Becky and Merilyn until giving up farming and moving to Roy where he owned and operated Dave's Beeline Service. During this time many of the teenage boys from the Roy area worked part time at the station and became known as "his boys" around the Fridal household. After closing the station, Dave worked as an aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base until his retirement. When his oldest great grandchild started kindergarten, Grandpa was called to substitute as the volunteer room mother. This emergency position turned into a 10 year volunteer aid position for the kindergarten class. He became known as "grandpa" to the next 10 years of kindergarten graduates. During this time he and Barbara hosted the annual "HoBo Hike" where the children from his class would march with their knapsacks from the school to his backyard where they would play in the leaves and the playhouse he had built for his grandchildren.

Dave is survived by his daughters, Paula Eames, Rebecca Fridal, Merilyn Fridal, four grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many who considered him "Grandpa", two sisters Mary Harris of Phoenix, Arizona, Irene Fryer of Salt Lake City.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents and two brothers Ed and Jim.

Grandpa taught us to be resourceful and self reliant. His honesty, generosity and integrity were an example for us all. We will miss you Grandpa. And as you would always say, "We'll see you in the funny papers".

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Bear River City Cemetery, 4600 West 5600 North, Bear River City, Utah.

Friends may call Friday, October 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy.
