HERRIN -- Mary Lou Bayler, 71, of Decatur, formerly of Herrin, died at 12:53 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church in Herrin. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Graceland Cemetery in Decatur. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Association.

Mary Lou was born March 13, 1932, in Worden, the daughter of John and Nellie (Gwyn) Schneider. She married the Rev. LaVon E. Bayler on Aug. 21, 1953, in Worden.

Mary Lou was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bayler and his wife served Central United Methodist Church for four years, retiring in 1993.

She taught school in Litchfield and Herrin. She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years; one sister, June Hubert of Granite City; her children and their spouses, LaNell M. Bayler and companion, Iris Poe, of Loami, Mark and Kathleen Bayler of Springfield, and Angela Bayler of Decatur; and two grandchildren, Jennifer M. Whitcomb of Springfield and Brad and wife Brittany Whitcomb of Greenfield, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David; three brothers; and five sisters.
