Jake passed away on October 2, 2012 at his home in Prairie Pines. He was born on December 23, 1927 in Minatare, Nebraska. He was 84. Jakes parents, Jacob Brill Sr. and Maria Elizabeth (Fox) Brill were born in New Norka, Russia, a colony of German settlers that escaped from Germany during World War I. Three brothers migrated from Russia to Winnipeg, Canada in March, 1912. From Canada, they came to the United States where Jacob and Maria received their citizenship papers in 1939 and 1940 in Chadron, Nebraska. Jacob and Maria gave birth to eight children, which their oldest was born in Canada prior to coming to the US.
On July 20, 1946, Jake Brill and Claudine Gusner were married in Rapid City, South Dakota; shortly thereafter, they moved to the Los Angeles, California area. Two children were born in California to this union, Eugene Brill and Dorene Christensen. Jake received his Real Estate license for California and began selling property. Jake was enlisted in the US Coast Guard, Merchant Marines in 1945. He was on the USS Warwick Victory Ship in Japan and Hawaii. Jake opened a vehicle body repair shop in Crawford, then on to selling used cars for Abe Chicoine in 1957. Jake commuted daily from Whitney until he purchased their home in Crawford. In November 1960, he ventured further and purchased Crawford Implement Company with Loy Pierce as a partner in the business. Crawford Implement sold Case equipment, Buick and GMC trucks. They continued the business until fall of 1985 at which time, Jake decided to build in Chadron. After completion, he opened Solar Motors in Chadron, selling used cars and an auto repair shop. Jake and Claudine then moved to Chadron and continued the dealership for years until he sold the business and the building to Brett Baker. Throughout his life he continued to buy and develop property in the Dawes County Area.
Jake was a member of the BPOE – Elks Club, the American Legion, as well as the Eagles Club in Crawford. He assisted with the PRCA Rodeo in Crawford for many years.
