Mrs. Meacham, 87, of Gautier, Miss., passed away on Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at her residence at the Ocean Springs Nursing Center. She was born June 8, 1919, in Ellerbe, N.C., in Richmond County and has been a resident of Jackson County, Miss., since 1968. She worked in a bakery and later as an administrative assistant. She then married Arthur Jackson Meacham on June 29, 1946.

As a Navy wife, she lived in Hawaii twice, San Diego, and Dunoon, Scotland before settling in the Pascagoula-Gautier area for the last 35 years. She was an entrepreneur, owning and operating a Dessert Book franchise and later selling and distributing food staples for the church food storage program.

As an active member of her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she was a genealogy expert and advocate. She loved to garden and read.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Alice Scott Baucom and Calvin Ransom Baucom, three sisters and two brothers, as well as her husband, Arthur Jackson Meacham of Gautier, (May 2, 2006).

Doris is survived by one brother, Howard Baucom of Rockingham, N.C.; three children, Lt. Colonel Mark J. Meacham of Michigan, Iain Pollock of Miss., and Margy Meacham of Texas; three grandchildren, Jaime Meacham, Crystal Meacham, and Robert Meacham; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A North Carolina graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Old Eastside Cemetery, Rockingham, N.C., to celebrate the lives of Doris and Jack Meacham. Family and friends will be received directly after the service at the home of Arlo and Kay Meacham Caulder, 138 Arlo's Lane (off Wiregrass Road).

A Mississippi memorial service will be held at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gautier on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate the lives of Doris and Jack Meacham with their Mississippi friends, neighbors, and church members.
