Samuel was the son of Daniel Stong and Elizabeth Fisher. He married Mary Boot on 27 FEB 1852 in Canada. They were the parents of 11 children: William, Hannah, Elizabeth, Abraham, Emma, Brigham, Mary, George, John, Sarah, and Daniel. Mary died Dec 10, 1866. He married Rebecca Friesner on January 31, 1888 in Humboldt.

April 4, 1912 - Humboldt Independent - Samuel Stong was born July 10, 1831, twelve miles north of Toronto, Canada. He was married to Mary Boot at the same place on February 27, 1852. To them were born eleven children, nine of whom are still living. He moved from Canada to Muscatine county, Iowa, in the fall of 1866 and resided there until he moved to his farm in Humboldt county in the year 1882. In 1886 his wife, Mary, died.

On January 31, 1888 he was married to Mrs. R. Friesner, who survives him. In the year of 1899 he moved to the town of Humboldt and resided there until the time of his death
which occured on March 27, 1912. He and his wife united with the Methodist-Episcopal church of Humboldt July 8, 1893, of which church he remained a consistent member until he was called to take his place in the church triumphant in the heavenly land. The funeral was conducted by Rev. H.D. Herr at the family residence and was largely attended. The burial took place in the Union cemetery.
