Born in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland, he was the only son of Edward and Margaret O'Kane. He immigrated to the US onboard the "Aquitania", arriving at The Port of New York on July 24, 1920. His destination, as listed on the manifest, was to join his sister Mary O'Kane Peake and her family I n Lyndhurst, NJ. He later resided in East Newark (Harrison area), married Marie Smith and raised his two sons, Edward and John, there. "Ned" died in 1980, was predeceased by his wife and eldest son, Edward. He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ with his wife and son, however, his name was never added to the headstone.
