Walter G. Beaver, 71, of 606 Meyer St., died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in a local hospital following a short illness.
A resident of Victoria since 1936, Mr. Beaver had retired after 45 years of employment with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He was born march 4, 1907, in Vickery, Texas, to the late Claude Vernon and Ossie Mae Fox Beaver, and formerly lived in San Antonio. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Telephone Pioneers and had been associated with the Boy Scouts of America, March of Dimes and REACT.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Luster Lockett, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with McCabe-Carruth Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. Saturday until time of the services.
Surviving are his wife, of Victoria; three daughters, Mrs. Carol Culpepper of Victoria, Dorothy Beaver of Dallas and Mrs. Helen Andrade of Jamestown, R. I..; a son, Charles Beaver of Victoria; a brother, Raymond C. Beaver of Garland; and 10 grandchildren.

The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until time of services.
Pallbearers will be W. H. McManis, A. F. Hall, Leroy Beck, Paul Franz, T. F. Smothers and Carl Duderstadt.
