Alfred John Bayer, 87, of Muenster died Sept. 30 at Muenster Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Ken Robinson celebrating. Arrangements were under the direction of the McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster. Pallbearers were Jeremy Bayer, Steven Roberts, Karley Bayer, Sam Bayer, Eric
Bayer, Pat Bayer and Andrew Bayer.
History
Alfred John Bayer was born Dec. 25, 1924 in Muenster to Joseph and Gertrude Walterscheid Bayer. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1942 and began working at the cheese
plant as a truck driver hauling cheese to several Texas cities. He later worked on the farm for his grandfather. Alfred John Bayer was called to military service in March 1942 with his basic training completed in Fort Hood. He was then sent to the Philippines and Okinawa. He was discharged in October 1947. He married Anna Marie Klement May 11, 1948 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. They lived on his grandfather's farm where they farmed and milked cows by hand. They went into the chicken business and had more than 1,300 laying hens. Gathering eggs became a chore. As their family grew, they sold most of the hens and started a Grade A dairy, selling the milk to AMPI. Alfred John Bayer enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a life member of Sacred Heart Parish, was a member of the VFW and also was a lifetime member of the Muenster Community.

Alfred John Bayer is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Klement Bayer of Muenster; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ed Roberts of Benbrook; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe
David and Cecelia Bayer of Sherman, Melvin and Mary Jean Bayer of Lindsay, Paul and Donna Bayer of Muenster, Larry and Denise Bayer of Baton Rouge, La., Leon and Lea Ann Bayer of Muenster and Michael and Robin Bayer of Krum; sister, Ethel Mae Hesse of Muenster; brother, Art Bayer of Muenster; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Arlie Bayer; brother, Robert Bayer; and parents, Joseph and Gertrude Bayer.
