"Silas W. Briggs died at his country home, six miles north of Marion at half past eight Thursday evening. For the past fifty years Mr. Briggs has been identified with the agricul tural interests of Marion county, Born February 14, 1828, In Huntington county, Pennsylvania, he came to Ohio in 1853 and settled in Crawford county. He was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Shank and together, In 1861 they moved to Marlon county, purchasing laud in the fertile north section, where they have since resided.
Eight children, five of whom, with the widow, survive, were bom of the union. They are Luther A, of Santa Monica, California; Emma A., now Mrs. Bryson, of near Morral; Otto G, secretary Marion Citizens' Building and Loan Association; Eugene N, and Clyde M. both engaged in cultivating the home farm.
To have lived for fifty years in one place, to have seen what in these days is considered a large family grow to successful manhood and womanhood, to have furthered the landed interests of his district and raised the standard of farm life both in the home and in the fields, and to succumb at last to the natural death, old age and its complications, this is the enviable record of Silas Briggs.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home at ten o'clock Saturday morning, Rev. Chilton of Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will be made in Marion cemetery."
