Marvin H. Bailey was born July 31, 1849 in Newfane, Niagara County, New York the son of Benjamin Burgess Bailey and Margaret Maxwell. Marvin enlisted 7 Dec 1863 as a private in the 2nd New York Mounted Rifles. Like many young men in the Civil War, Marvin enlisted at a very young age to support the Union. His service followed that of his brothers, Augustus and Henry, who also enlisted from Niagara County, NY. After the war, Marvin moved from Niagara County to Quincy, Branch County, Michigan, following another brother, Gideon Osborn Bailey, who was the Village of Quincy treasurer in 1863. Marvin was employed in a hotel and was a saloon keep, where he would later meet is his fate. On 8 November 1874, Marvin married Sarah Frances Shaw in Hillsdale, Michigan. Sarah was the daughter of James Shaw and Emeline Flynn. On 5 July 1876, Aaron Brownell shot and killed Marvin H Bailey after an altercation. Aaron Brownell was charged for killing Marvin H. Bailey in Quincy, MI, on the evening of 5 July. In 1877, Aaron Brownell was convicted of murder in the second degree and sentenced to the State Prison for twenty years."
