Thomas Albert Turnage, 54, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Jackson. Services were January 7, 2004, at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, MS. and was attended by many friends and family.
"Tommy" as he was affectionately called by friends and family alike, was born September 7, 1949, in Jackson, MS. Son of the late General Evan Albert "Beby" Turnage and the late Ethlyn Dale of Monticello, MS.
Mr. Turnage was a landowner and for many years a truckdriver. He enjoyed nothing better than being "at one with nature" by walking in the woods, fishing, hunting and gazing at God's handy work. He enjoyed for many years gardening and he dug his own gardens. As part of his love of nature he spent many hours renovating his lakeside cabin in Monticello, where he and his wife enjoyed many happy times. Mr. Turnage served in Special Forces in Vietnam as a ranger he served his country both honorably and courageously. The deepest pride that he felt beside that for his family was having served his country and he felt a lifelong sense of patriotism. Mr. Turnage was a member of Monticello Baptist Church and professed a deep and solid faith in God.
