The Spirit of Democracy, 25 Apr 1895 – A sad accident befell Mrs. Simon Dorr Tuesday afternoon. While standing in the yard near a fire, her dress caught fire and before the flames could be extinguished she was horribly burned up the left side, across the abdomen and about the face; the throat also showing some indications of being burned. Medical aid was summoned, and everything done to relieve Mrs. Dorr's sufferings. Mrs. Dorr is over 75 years old, and on account of her age and the severity of her injuries it is feared that she will not recover.

The Spirit of Democracy, 2 May 1895 – The sad accident which befell Mrs. Simon Dorr Tuesday of last week, an account of which was published in our last issue, resulted fatally. The burns were so severe that the physicians had no hope of recovery and although everything possible was done to save her life, Mrs. Dorr breathed her last at an early hour Thursday (4/25/1895) morning. Mrs. Dorr was born in the County Antrim, Ireland, in 1820 and with her parents came to this country in 1832. Her maiden name was Ellen McCammon. In 1828 she was married to Simon Dorr at Miltonsburg, Ohio. They came to Woodsfield in 1866, where Mrs. Dorr died April 25, 1895. She was the mother of twelve children, three of whom are dead. Those living are Mrs. Russell Mason of Caldwell, Mrs. Patrick Sherry of Bellaire, William Dorr and Simon J. Dorr of Pittsburg (sic), Hon. Charles P. Dorr of Addison, W. Va., Dr. A. I. Dorr of Lower Salem, Ohio, and George P. Dorr, Mrs. Winfield Dougherty and Sylvester P. Dorr of Woodsfield. The relatives feel very grateful to their many friends for the kindness shown to them in their great affliction.
