George M. Horton

George M. Horton, of Sublette, who will be 82 years old next month was one of a set of triplets, all of whom lived to manhood and womanhood. He was born Feb. 26, 1850, in Adair County, near Kirksville, and spent his entire life in the county with the exception of six years in Kansas. He retired from the farm a few years ago and moved to Sublette. He was the son of William and Malinda (Haynes) Horton, and was one of thirteen children. His triplet brother James, lived to the age of 21. His triplet sister Nancy was married to James Cooley and died on [sic] Dallas, Tex. at the age of 40. She left two children.

Mr. Horton is now the only surviving member of the family of thirteen. He was married Sept. 17, 1872, to Miss Mary Coghill, and ten children were born to them, nine living to maturity. His children now living are Mrs. W. Hewitte, Curlew, Wash.; Mrs. S.O. Norman, Gass City, Kan.; Mrs. B.F. Dunham, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Dave Adams, Greentop; Mrs. C.W. Hicks, Sublette; and J.W. and Edgar Horton, of Kirksville. He also has 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
