Melissa Dawn Hubbard

Melissa Dawn Hubbard, 36, fought a courageous battle and went home to be with her heavenly Father Friday (Dec. 20, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Melissa was born in Sullivan County. She worked 11 years at AFG and was a full-time student at Northeast State at the time of her death. She was a member of Take Time Cancer Support Group at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and was a volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Melissa was a wonderful daughter, mother, sister and niece and a best friend to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved stepfather, James Dykes; maternal grandparents, Worley and Erma Million; paternal grandparents, Elbert and Manie Byrd; cousins and nephews.

Survivors include her daughter, Summer Danielle Slogar, Kingsport; mother, Vivian Dykes; father and stepmother, Eugene and Jo Ann Byrd; brothers and sisters, Donna Byrd, of Ohio, Carol Roller, of Kingsport, Randall Byrd and wife Donita, Timothy Byrd and Joey Byrd, all of Kingsport; special uncle, Robert McCurry; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends may visit anytime at the home of her mother, Vivian Dykes, 1108 Camelia Ave., Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Moody and the Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.

Graveside services will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Take Time Cancer Support Group, c/o Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, 130 W. Ravine Rd., 3rd Floor Oncology, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.
