SIKESTON -- Margarete Anne Day, 87, formerly of East Prairie, died at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 12, 2008, in the Miner Nursing Center.
Born April 29, 1921, at Binghen, Germany, to the late Fritz Walter and Gretel Betshe Denfeld, she lived in Sikeston for the past 29 years after moving here from Indiana. She was of the Catholic belief.

On Sept. 16, 1948, at Wiesbaden, Germany, she married Charles Columbus Day who preceded her in death on March 18, 2006.

One brother and one sisters also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, James F. and Carolyn Day of Sikeston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Margarete R. and Jerry Wood of Woodville, Ala., and Patricia A. Day of Sikeston; five sisters, Ursula Graff of Hobart, Ind., Elsa Westcott of the state of Florida, and Gisela Vertteyan, Rosemarie Denfeld and Annaleise Denfeld all of Germany; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Scott Sunnenberg will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery in East Prairie.

Pallbearers will be: Erich Wood, Nicholas Wood, Lyle Day, Chris Day, Greg Day and Eric Day.
