From the New Castle Record, dated July 11, 1903:
"Eliza Craft aged 35 years, ended her life at her own hands, on last Thursday evening at her home in Craig City. At the time of the tragedy a sister and another woman-Mariah Welch-living near were stopping in when Eliza suddenly announced that she had been thinking about doing something for some time and that she thought now was as good a time as any. At this she reached for a revolver. Both women sprang to their feet to wrest the revolver from her and finally succeeded, Mrs. Welch getting the revolver and getting into the yard with it. At this Eliza broke loose from her sister and snatched the revolver from Mrs. Welch firing two shots in rapid succession into her chest before further interference was possible. A coroner's jury was speedily summoned and a decision rendered that deceased came to her death as a result of a pistol wound at her own hands. To give the real cause for the rash act would be hard but is a general belief that worries over affairs of a domestic character, trifling in the extreme, augmented by gossips and her own nervous temperament were responsible for the tragedy. We are informed by relatives of the deceased that the sad affair was not wholly unexpected as she had made known her intentions on former occasions. She owned a small house in Craig City and had lived by herself for several years. She was the daughter of the late "Dick" Craft and leaves several brothers and sisters all of whom have the sympathy of many friends in the sad affair."
