James A.GREEN COUNTY KENTUCKY OBITUARY – 1939
Less than 1 week after the above picture appeared in the daily Courier-Journal, the husband, Mr. John A. Rayburn died. His death occurred at 6:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. Mr. Rayburn had been in fair health up until the night before he died, when he complained of his throat hurting him. The deceased was one of the county's outstanding citizens and during most of his lifetime was engaged in the general merchandising business. He was reared in the Pierce community but had been living at Blowing Springs a good many years. He was born March 29, 1848 died January 11, 1939 at the hour of 6:30 a.m. thus making him 90 years, 9 months and 12 days of age. He was married to Itilda Lovelase 68 years ago. To this union 10 children were born, 5 preceded him in death. He is survived by his companion, Mrs. Itilda Rayburn and 5 children, George William Rayburn, Mrs. T.J. Wright, Mrs. Chas Beard, Mrs. W.A. Ennis and R.L. Rayburn, all living in Green County. He is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 15 grandchildren. He was the last of a family of 13 children to pass away. Besides several nephews and nieces, he leaves a host of friends who are grieved at his going. He professed faith in Christ when he was a young man and united with the Separate Baptist Church and ever remained with his faith in the Lord. The subject of this sketch was not sick and did not have to linger in pain but a few minutes, his heart failed him, he told his family he was going and in a short while he was gone. The deceased was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Pierce and attended his meeting regularly as long as he was able to go. Funeral services were conducted at the Oak Grove Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 12 by his nephew, J.W. Rayburn, pastor of the Methodist Church in Greensburg. After which he was laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.
