Youngest son of Lyman and Fanny (Barnard) Mathers.
He enlisted in the 46th Indiana Infantry from CAMDEN, INDIANA. After the civil war, he followed his brother, Josiah, to NE.
He married Margarget Spicer on Dec. 21,1874 in Minden, NE.
They were the parents of 6 children of which Effie preceded him in death.
Surviving him were his wife, Margaret, children, Laura, Fannie, Elmer, Ethel and William.
