Charles R. York, age 79, of Springerton, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at McLeansboro Rehabilitation and Health Care. He was born March 30, 1933, in Springerton, the son of Grover Cleveland and Pearl (Siefried) York. He married Clara M. Baker on November 19, 1952 in Pocohantas, Ark., and she preceded him in death on September 10, 2003.
Charles farmed in the Springerton area most of his life. He was an avid hunter. He was a member of the Springerton Christian Church.
He is survived by a son, Michael R. York, of Springerton; a daughter and son-in-law, Hope and John Martin Williams, of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren, Wesley F. York, Sean M. (Emily Hodge) York, Mary M. York, Michaela L. Scattone, and Benjamin C. Scattone, Amy E. (Chris) Evans and Justin T. Williams; three great-grandchildren, Sawyer Hodge, Owen B. Jaeger and Davis W. Evans; one brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Betty Jo York of Carmi; two sisters, Violet Smith and Betty Lou Clark, both of Carmi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; a half-brother, Clayton R. York; one sister, Bernadine Phillips; and three half sisters, Louise Melvin, Maxine Oliver, and Beulah Gentry.
